Greetings of love at a very special time of year. We are grateful to the Lord for a great year. He has blessed us in many ways. Maynard and I have had several church-related trips this year. We were privileged to attend the BMA Minsters’ Enrichment weekend in February in Sarasota, Florida. We flew from Baltimore to Tampa and spent the nights at Maynard’s Uncle Floyd’s place in Sarasota. We also got to see some of the other aunts and uncles who live there. That was my first time that far south. It was neat to see the palm trees and other tropical plants and to enjoy warm weather while it was cold back home. In August we went to the BMA summer convention in Due West, South Carolina. It was a privilege to stop in at Leon and Ida’s on the way down and to spend a night there. In June, Maynard and I took Marlene to JFK airport in New York, and she flew from there to Kunming, China. She was able to get into language school almost right away and also found a nice place to live with two Chinese young women. We are hoping that we can go visit her this next summer. I’ve been working in our school as supervisor this year again. It has been going quite well. Maynard has to take more responsibility with the chickens. In April I went along as a sponsor to Student Convention. That was a new experience for me. I signed up to be a judge for sewing projects. It was an interesting week. We had five students who went. This year we have a total of 11 students: they range in age from 9 - 18. We have three who are trying to finish up this year. Also, Christy is homeschooling Tasha for first-grade, and brings her to school on the days that she monitors. We were very glad to have Angela around for the first couple months of school. She helped two days at school and the rest of the time was with Maynard’s parents. We are looking forward to Mark coming in from Colorado for a week. We did have the privilege of having him home in May for several days as he came for a wedding. We enjoyed our time together as a family. Phil & Holly and the children will be in Illinois with Holly’s family for about a week, coming back on the 26th. So we plan to have our family get-together on Saturday, the 27th. Renee and Ryan are both growing up so fast. Ryan was a year old in July and Renee 3 in Aug. Andy continues to live at home and works with Maynard and the guys in carpentry. He is also attending Salisbury University and studying finance. Maynard says that we should maybe hire him to help us with our finances. Maynard keeps having plenty of work. They have been trying to finish up a house on Lambertson Road which they started in the summer. The owners wanted to be finished by Christmas. Maynard thinks they are about done what needs doing. New houses aren’t coming in right now - mostly smaller jobs. The guys took on a big roofing job this fall, which still is not quite done. They’ve had a lot of bad weather to deal with. Plus the house needed the whole roof taken off and new plywood put back on before the new shingles. Maynard has also taken a turn at times staying with his parents. They need someone with them just about round the clock. They still can get around, but since his mom fell out on the road and broke her hip back in February, the family decided it was time to have someone stay with them all the time. Thanksgiving weekend Maynard stayed overnight one night so Nathan could go to niece Kristin’s wedding in NC. This summer our church had a camping weekend at Shad Landing. It was a fun weekend and most of our families camped there. Some that didn’t came out and spent time during the day and came on Sunday for our service there in the park. Some of the activities of our Christmas week are or have been already: making cookies for the jail and then caroling at the jail on Monday evening and passing out the cookies; a Christmas party at school on Tuesday. The students are to bring gifts for a gift exchange - gifts suitable for anyone. Then we will have a game to exchange them. Wednesday evening, Christmas Eve, will be our community caroling. I will be on vacation until the 5th of January. That will be nice. I don’t know what I’ll do all the time, but I know that I can find things to do. The last time I had a day off I cleaned out cupboards in the kitchen. There is plenty more housecleaning I could do. I still set up for sewing every month, but haven’t been piecing so many comfort tops. I do have some ready if we decide to do a comfort knotting some night at church. Another thing that I still do is to keyboard for Wycliffe. Right now I'm working on a handwritten text from Cameroon, Africa. Before that I was typing up chapters from John and Acts from the Whitesands language in Tanna, and island in the South Pacific. It is interesting as I've been reading a book about John G. Paton to the students in school. He was a missionary to that island in the 1800's. Maynard and I took the opportunity to go to "Bethlehem" last Friday evening. A local church had an interesting setup of the town of Bethlehem as in the days of Jesus' birth. Looks like the camel was getting ready to lick Maynard.

May each of you treasure the real meaning of Christmas. Mary |
